Advice issued for Citywing passengers

Advice on how to claim a refund is being offered to passengers who had booked flights with Citywing.

The Civil Aviation Authority tweeted that Citywing is not covered by the ATOL Protection scheme.

It said passengers wishing to obtain a refund for unused tickets will need to contact Citywing directly.

’Passengers who booked directly with the company via either a credit, charge or debit card may alternatively be able to make a claim against their card provider,’ the CAA tweeted.

’Some card providers will ask for a negative response letter confirming the position. Passengers may also be able to make a claim against their travel insurer.’

The CAA said holders of Citywing tickets on the relaunched Newcastle and Belfast routes should contact Eastern Airways directly.

In respect of Cardiff-Anglesey services, the Welsh Government has put in place arrangements to allow ticket holders on that route to travel.

Advice has also been offered by the island’s Office of Fair Trading.

It said this is an evolving situation, but passengers who have paid by credit card or debit card may, depending on their particular circumstances, be entitled to a refund.

You will need to make contact with your card provider as soon as possible.

Passengers are also advised to check their travel insurance – the air operator had actually advised its customers to take out travel insurance in its terms and conditions.

Travel insurance may cover events such as a company going into liquidation

The OFT added: ’Contact Citywing directly to find out what you need to do to progress a request for a refund.

’Monitor developments through media releases by Citywing, the Department of Infrastructure (IOM Airport) and the Civil Aviation Authority.’

I booked myself and daughter... blackpool to Iom in July not been able to get in touch with city wing so will get in contact with my card provider/travel insurance let them fight over who is not going to pay me back!! It's bound to be complicated!! I wouldn't mind so much but back when Comed where operating this route i had similarly booked flights from Blackpool and they went bust owing me money but that time I had paid cash at the airport never got a penny back.. C'est la vie !!

You're right, of course, ET, but I wonder how many people actually read the Terms & Conditions for flight tickets they purchase, regardless of the airline. It may be a real eye opener.

Ex-Managing Director David Buck says there was little alternative from therein: Support is still being offered to passengers who had booked flights with Citywing. It's advised them to not contact the company directly, but to take the matter up with their travel insurer or card provider. This comment was made on Manx radio. Doesn't seem to me they are offering support but washing their hands of the matter and telling you to sort it out yourself

Utterly preemptive until a liquidator has been appointed and done his job. First to be paid will the liquidator, second the Banks, third the government and the remaining fifty quid will be shared amongst the 16,000. Island travellers need protection from similar future occurrences. Buying a ticket is not an investment with attached risks. Yet another unattractive feature for future investors to contemplate.

..And the Manx Radio story quotes the MD of CityWing telling people NOT to contact them directly. I sense this going around in circles with everyone passing the buck for months to come.

Booked Glasgow flights for the summer, as advised by the CAA phoned Citywing, line constantly engaged or you get an automated message saying the mailbox is full! Have sent an email, no response. Went to the airport, instructions as to what customers should do have not changed since Saturday. The Airport authorities on the Isle of Man need to get their fingers out and offer better support to those affected by this, is anyone monitoring City wings customer support? It doesn't look like it.
