Multi-franchise car dealership Motor Mall admires Douglas Rugby Club’s Carl Murray for his work with youngsters.
Rugby sevens is Carl’s speciality having played for a number of years in the World Series for Portugal including winning matches against the All Blacks, Australia, South Africa and England.
Just before Saturday’s victorious 20-0 game against Glossop in the South Lancashire/Cheshire league fixture, Carl was officially presented with a new sponsored car courtesy of Motor Mall on Peel Road, Douglas.
Carl said: ’It’s an amazing gesture from a great local company. This isn’t about giving me a car, it’s about helping me to do what I love most, encourage young people to look at not just rugby, but sport in general, as a way of keeping healthy and happy.’
As well as being head coach of the hugely successful Douglas team, Carl devotes his spare time to coaching youngsters at the club and in schools around the island, and is one of the coaches in the ever popular Manx Youth Games.
Head of business for Motor Mall, Lee Boyle, said: ’This is about helping Carl to give back to the community we all live and work in.
’His amazing career is an inspiration and is one thing that can encourage younger people to get more active, get into sport and generally live healthier lives. In this technical age it can be very hard for parents to motivate their children to get out and be active, and that’s where selfless people like Carl can really make a huge difference.’
