Three teenagers have been arrested on suspicion of arson after fire destroyed a large part of the former marine biological station in Port Erin on New Year’s Eve.

The arrests were made on Monday and the boys, who are all from the south of the island were subsequently interviewed at police headquarters. They were later bailed without charge, to return to police headquarters pending further progression of this case.

Inspector Andy Kneen said: ’I would like to thank the members of the public who have thus far come forward and assisted my officers in progressing this case

’This assistance has led to the arrest of three young people that we suspect are responsible for causing this fire. I am confident that we now know the circumstances of how this fire started.

’A report is being prepared for consideration by prosecutors from the Attorney General Chambers who will determine whether or not there will be criminal proceedings in this case.’
